SALUTE Direct Assistance Program

Program Description

SALUTE provides direct financial assistance to selected active and veteran Illinois resident or native U.S. armed services personnel or their families based on a case-by-case assessment of need.

The SALUTE founders have experienced first-hand the financial burden and strain on family budgets that can occur when a family member is called up for active duty or deployed to a remote destination. Loss of income, reduced benefits, increased travel and increased telephone bills are only some of the hardships that our armed services personnel and their families must endure. SALUTE, in conjunction with the Illinois Military Family Relief Fund, is there to help these families cope with these increased financial issues.

Eligibility Requirements

The recipient must be on active duty or a veteran of the recent armed conflict, or a member of the immediate family of that person, and must be a resident of Illinois or born in Illinois. Anyone can apply on behalf of the proposed recipient, but only those meeting the criteria are eligible to receive the assistance.

Proof of honorable service or discharge or proof of kinship may be required to verify eligibility, if requested by SALUTE.

Application Process

Complete the attached Request for Assistance Form, and submit it to SALUTE, Inc. via e-mail: usasalutes@yahoo.com or by regular mail at the address provided on the form.

The SALUTE Direct Assistance Program Committee will evaluate the application, verify eligibility, assess the availability of resources to meet the request and notify the applicant of approval or rejection within two weeks of receipt of the application by SALUTE.

SALUTE Wounded Warrior Laptop Program

Program Description

SALUTE provides laptop or notebook computers to selected Illinois resident or native U.S. armed services personnel or veterans who have been injured or wounded while serving in specified theaters of operation in recent armed conflicts, and are undergoing an extended recuperation and/or rehabilitation in military hospitals.

In many cases, the injury requires the wounded warrior prepare to change careers. The computer provides access to on-line educational courses, vocational training, research material, medical information, support group and advocacy group contact, recreational and game sites, travel information and inexpensive e-mail contact with friends and family. All these contribute to enhancing the future of the wounded warrior and making the extended hospital stay easier to bear.

Eligibility Requirements

Recipients must be a resident of the State of Illinois or have been born in Illinois. Recipients must have been wounded or injured in a service-related activity while on active duty during the recent armed conflict. They must require extended treatment or rehabilitation beyond 30 days as a result of their wounds or injury or must have been permanently disabled as a result of a service-related injury or wound. SALUTE may require verification of these eligibility requirements and applicants must be prepared to submit proof of eligibility.

Application Process

Candidates (or someone acting on their behalf) are required to complete the attached SALUTE Wounded Warrior Laptop Program Application, and submit it to SALUTE via e-mail at usasalutes@yahoo.com or by mail at the address shown below. The SALUTE Wounded Warrior Laptop Program Committee will review the application and request verification, if necessary. It is very likely that there will be telephone contact with the applicant during the evaluation process, so it is required that telephone contact information be submitted. SALUTE will notify the applicant of approval or rejection within two weeks after receipt of the application or verifying information.

Donations

SALUTE is actively seeking corporate or organizational sponsorship of this Program. Due to the cost of laptop and notebook computers, SALUTE cannot fulfill every request. Although our goal is to expand this Program to all eligible Illinois service personnel, and then to expand it into a national program, we do not have the resources to fulfill this mission without the help of a major sponsor or several major sponsors. Although we have been blessed by the generous gift from the Turner Family, we must have additional sponsors to continue this Program. If your company or organization would like to sponsor this Program, please contact Will Beiersdorf at usasalutes@yahoo.com or by telephone at 847-749-2768. We need your help to "Honor the Service" and "Remember the Sacrifice" of those wounded warriors who have given so much to defend our country.

Private donations are also essential for our Program to continue. If you would like to donate to this Program or contribute to the general fund of SALUTE, please go to the "Donate" portion of our website, or mail your contribution to:

SALUTE Forgotten Veterans Program

Program Description

SALUTE provides cash contributions, medical equipment or services, recreational equipment, personal hygiene items, clothing or other personal items to Illinois veterans' hospitals and homes. This Program supplements the woefully inadequate government funding that is meant to provide healthcare and residential services to veterans of our past wars and conflicts. SALUTE believes we should better "Honor the Service" and "Remember the Sacrifice" of these aged warriors.

In addition, SALUTE is initiating an advocacy program for our forgotten veterans to assist them with properly filling out their applications for assistance and to support them in dealing with the Veterans Administration and other government entities.

Eligibility Requirements

The facility must be an accredited veterans' facility located within the State of Illinois.

Application Process

Decisions regarded these awards are solely at the discretion of the SALUTE Forgotten Veterans Program Committee. There is no application, and awards are made on the basis of assessments of need performed by the Committee, with input from other veterans' organizations.

Donations

If you would like to assist us in honoring our older veterans, please go to the "Donate" portion of our website to make your generous contribution to this Program or to the SALUTE general fund. You can also mail your contributions to:
